Beta-glucans are naturally occurring polysaccharides derived from the cell wall of a species of yeast Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. Each tablet contains 250 mg of beta-glucans, which together with vitamins D and C, zinc and selenium play an important role in supporting the immune system.
Beta-glucans are sugars found in the cell walls of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, algae, lichens and plants such as oats and barley. They are most commonly used for heart disease and high cholesterol.
Oral beta-glucans can lower blood cholesterol levels by preventing the absorption of cholesterol from food in the stomach and intestines. As a soluble fiber, beta-glucan itself is not digested, but it slows down the passage of food in the gut. As a result, carbohydrates are absorbed more slowly, resulting in more stable blood sugar. In addition, it travels slowly through the digestive tract, taking cholesterol with it.
