Bromelain is a protein digesting enzyme extracted from the stem of fresh pineapples which has traditionally been used as an aid to digestion. However, more recently, research has shown that some bromelain can be absorbed and have useful activity within the body. It is sometimes recommended to be taken alongside glucosamine.
Quite often Bromelain is used by athletes in cases of dislocation or tensions as it inhibits the production of prostaglandins (inflammation and pain causing agents), helping to reduce inflammation and pain resulting from injuries.
Thanks to the anti-inflammatory and tissue-enhancing effects of bromelain, this enzyme helps to reduce swelling and accelerates the healing of surgical and soft tissue wounds. Combined with papain and quercetin, bromelain relieves symptoms of inflammation of the prostate gland and tendonitis (tendinitis) and alleviates milder injuries.
Who should use Lamberts Bromelain tablets:
Directions: One tablet before each main meal a maximum of 3 times a day or as recommended by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are taking bromelain in combination with other food supplements (e.g. glucosamine, turmeric), take 3 tablets (one between each meal) for one week. As a maintenance dose, take 1 tablet daily for 3-6 months.
