Omega-3 and Omega-6
Oomega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, or essential fatty acids, are vital for the human body, as our body cannot produce them on its own, or only does so to a limited extent. Essential omega-3 fatty acids include EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ALA or alpha-linolenic acid, each of which plays an important role in supporting our bodies. EPA supports the heart and helps to reduce inflammation; DHA is important for the brain, eyes and skin; ALA can reduce the risk of stroke, and the body is able to produce other fatty acids when needed. Essential omega-3 and 6 fatty acids must be obtained from food, mainly fish or some plant sources. However, supplementation is a good tool to ensure that our body has the daily requirement of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
